ONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT EMERGENCY RESPONSE REPORT February 22, 20 2 Union Pacific R ilroad-Lime spill Michelle Sterni e, REHS & Dennis Catanyag EHS 8:45am I was briefed on the Union Pacific Railroads new spill by Doug Wilson and Michael Kith. Doug asked me to view the railroad tracks in the south part of the county. He than informed me thal there was a 10:00am meeting and UPRR with Fish and Game. 9:10am Arrived at railro d tracks located at Sperry Rd. and McKinley. A white powdery substance was o served in between the North Bound tracks. Several white crystalline rocks were found between the tracks and along the East side of the tracks. Samples of the crystalline rocks were taken by Dennis Catanyag, EHS. 9:45am Left site. 10:00am Arrived at UP for the meeting. Lori Oldfather-F ish & Game DeAnda-Fish & Game Don Snow-UPRP, Environmental Robert Longmir Jr. -Manager Track Maintenance Ernie Sirotek Jr. Chemical Transportation Manager Don Snow informed us that UPRR was notified of the spill at 5:00 from their St. Lois Dispatch. Apparently, a police officer in Turlock had stopped the train and informed the operator that it was leaking. The train was then instructed to continue on its route to the next terminal which was Stockton. Ernie Sirotek JrJ then said that Stockton happened to be that railcar's destination. Railcar # NRLX46356 was responsible for the spill According to L�ri Oldfather the spill occurred between mile marker 790-171. I asked UPRR r an MSDS of the material that was in railcar# NRLX46356. Don Snow said that they did not have one. He then said that they all he had was routing information. Fish & Game then asked him for a copy of the routing information and Don Snow replied, " No, Ernie already said that we were going to jail today, so no." Then Mr. Snow said, "Come on you guys, you've got to have a sense of humor." 10:45am Left UPPR Of ce to inspect the railcar which was located on McKinley.
