UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD <br />Waste Minimization Activities <br />1. The Supply and Research & Development Department's within the <br />railroa are continually looking for an opportunity to <br />identif a substitute non -hazardous product(s) for a currently <br />purchas d hazardous product(s). This procedure is done on a <br />daily b sis, but will not take place at the risk of railroad <br />operati nal quality. <br />2. On a dally basis it is the railroad's goal to continue to <br />recycle all applicable waste in lieu of disposal. <br />3. Below ists possible approaches and techniques that the <br />railroa will be reviewing in 1992 and as a result may opt to <br />impleme t in 1992-1993. <br />Inventory tracing of raw materials <br />Elimination of potential leaks and spills <br />Use waste exchanges (state sponsored -when feasible) <br />Optimize raw material use <br />
