Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re : Soil Excavation, Franzia Brothers Winery
1700 East Highway 120, Ripon, CA
Dear Diane :
On September 28 and 29 the east wall of the former tank pit was
re--excavated at- the above referenced site . This work was
initiated to remove the remaining contamination detected during
the excavation work in April, 1989 . Our July 20, 1989
Preliminary Report was submitted for review and approval prior to
beginning work .
Approximately 1, 200 cubic yards of soil was removed . Figure 1
illustrates the excavation and sampling locations . The
excavation intended down to about 30 feet .
Non-detectable levels of BTEX and TPH as gasoline were reported
in all samples collected (Attached) . Previous sampling reported
non-detectable to 2 . 9 parts per million TPH as gasoline in the
pit floor and non-detectable levels in the wall samples, except
the east wall .
We are planning on backfilling, with the clean overburden and
aerated soils, compacting and capping the pit with asphalt .
To determine if the aerated soil is ready for backfilling, a 4 to
1 composite sample will be collected for every 100 cubic yards of
excavated soil . Backfilling of tank pit is scheduled to begin on
October 23, 1989 . A summary report will be submitted after
completion of the project .
1710 MAIN STREET • ESCALON,CA 95320 • (209) 838-3507
FRESNO,CA(209) 222-3495 a RENO, NV(702) 788-6830
y
