1.0 INTRODUCTION
' 1.1 Site Location/Regulatory History
The subject site is located at 1700 East Highway 120 in Ripon, California (Figure 1). The
' property is presently owned by The Wine Group, a wine making and bottling operation. The
property formerly accommodated a maintenance facility for The Wine Group's vehicles.
' Currently the property is occupied by a diesel/automotive repair business.
The site has been under investigation since December 1988, when three (one 500-gallon waste
oil, one 10,000-gallon gasoline and one 10,000-gallon diesel) underground storage tanks (UST)
were removed from the site (Figure 2) The San Joaquin County Public Health Services
(SJCPHS) has been the lead agency for the entire project In May 1989, the site was placed in
' the State Water Resource Control Board's UST Pilot Program for oversight of assessment and
cleanup activities at contaminated underground tank saes.
1
1.2 Previous Work
In December 1988, one 500-gallon waste oil, one 10,000-gallon gasoline, and one 10,000-gallon
{
diesel USTs were removed from the protect site Gasoline hydrocarbons were detected beneath
' the east ends of both 10,000-gallon tanks No diesel or waste oil hydrocarbon constituents were
detected beneath the tanks
In April 1989, re-excavation of the former gasoline and diesel tanks began. Elevated
' concentrations of gasoline hydrocarbons were detected in the excavated soil Laboratory analysis
of the floor and wall samples collected from the excavation indicated low levels of gasoline
1 hydrocarbons to the excavation floor and elevated levels in the east wall
' In September 1989, the re-excavation activities were continued to remove the impacted soil in
the east wall of the excavation Laboratory analysis of the floor and wall samples collected from
the enlarged excavation indicated nondetectable levels of gasoline hydrocarbons.
' R-060392 TIL 1
