Working to Restore Nature <br /> 1710 Main Street <br /> Escalon, CA 95320 April 9, 1992 , <br /> Phone (209)838-3507 <br /> FAX (209)838-3509 <br /> Ms Linda Turkatte HE I <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services APR 11 1992 <br /> P o Box 2009 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH <br /> Stockton, California 95201 PUiMl i/SERVICES <br /> RE: Addendum to Soil Problem Assessment Report/Work Plan at Franzia Brothers <br /> Winery, 1700 East Highway 120, Ripon, California SITE CODE 1946 <br /> Dear Ms Turkatte <br /> At the request of The Wine Group, Ltd (Franzia Brothers Winery), this letter has been prepared <br /> to serve as an Addendum to the Soil Problem Assessment Report/Work Plan (WaterWork <br /> Corporation, July 13, 1990) for the subject site and is in response to San Joaquin County Public <br /> • Health Services (SJCPHS) correspondence dated April 9, 1991 The location of the subject <br /> property is shown on Figure 1 Based upon the data collected to date, the installation of two <br /> additional soil boring/groundwater monitoring wells should be sufficient to further assess the <br /> lateral extent of groundwater contamination at the project site Soil and groundwater samples <br /> will be collected and submitted for laboratory analysis and a report summarizing field procedures <br /> and data collected during this investigation will be prepared <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In December 1988, one 500-gallon waste oil, one 10,000-gallon gasoline, and one 10,000-gallon <br /> diesel underground storage tank were removed from the project site Gasoline hydrocarbons <br /> were detected beneath the east end of both 10,000-gallon tanks No diesel or waste oil <br /> hydrocarbon constituents were detected beneath the tanks <br /> In April 1989, re-excavation of the former gasoline and diesel tank excavation begun Elevated <br /> concentrations of gasoline hydrocarbons were detected in the excavated soil Laboratory analysis <br /> of the floor and wall samples collected from the excavation indicated low levels of gasoline <br /> hydrocarbons in the excavation floor and elevated levels in the east wail <br /> In July 1989, the re-excavation activities were continued to remove the impacted soil in the east <br /> wall of the excavation Laboratory analysis of the floor and wall samples collected from the <br /> L040792 SAY <br />
