' Site Background Information
• Bogeth's Orchard Service Station
' 2393 East Highway 132, Vernalis, California
' Bogetti's Orchard Service Station is located in a business/agricultural area of northern Vernalis,
California, in southern San Joaquin County, the southern boundary of the site abuts Highway
132 (Figure 1) Three structures are located on the property, including a produce stand and restaurant
A fuel service station was operated on the site up until late 1998
' REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING
' Based on Geologic Map of California, published in 1977 by the State of California Department of
Mines and Geology, the site is located within the Great Valley of California, a large, elongate
northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough The Great Valley Province has been filled to its
' present elevation with thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent, creating
a nearly flat-lying alluvial plain, extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to the
Klamath Mountains in the north The western and eastern boundaries of this province are comprised
' of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada, respectively Rocks composing the basement
complex of the province have not been completely defined but are believed to be metamorphic and
igneous in origin The Great Valley Province is subdivided into two mayor divisions designated as
' . the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys
The nearest surface water feature in the vicinity of the property is the San Joaquin River
approximately 5,000 feet northeast of the site A domestic ground water well is located on the site
Based on information from Lanes of Equal Depth to Groundwater- Sprang 1996, published by the
San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, the estimated depth to ground
water at the site is less then 10 feet below surface grade(bsg) Based on information from Lanes of
' Equal Elevation to Groundwater-Spring 1996,the approximate ground water elevation at the siteis
less then 10 feet above mean sea level The regional ground water flows toward the northeast,
although flow directions maybe both locally and seasonably variable Information obtained from the
UST removal indicated that ground water depth at the site is approximately 12 feet bsg
UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
AGE has been informed that one 10,000-gallon gasoline UST, one 5,000-gallon gasoline UST, one
I 5,000-gallon unleaded diesel UST and associated piping were removed from the site in late February
1999 During the removal of the UST system, evidence of an unauthorized release of petroleum
hydrocarbons to the subsurface was encountered
The analytical report from GeoAnalytical of Modesto indicated that soil samples were collected and
• analyzed from beneath UST #1, beneath UST #2, beneath UST#3 and soil samples were collected
Advanced Geo Envi ron mental,Inc.
