The tank cavity was cxcaavatctl to
the tlarixirtlum depth possible williin the safe operating limits of the equipment tised. On
November 7, 13,and 14, 1990,29 soil wimples were collected front:the bottom and sidewalls
of the excavation at locations selected by Ms. Margaret 1-agorio of the SJCYIIS as follow~:
• Ten sampics from the bo.torn of the excavation
Six samples from the cast sidewall
Six samples from the west sidewall
Pour saulples from the south sidewall
• "Three samples from the north sidewall
Soil samples were collected from the sidewalk at depths of 15 imd 22 feet below ground
surface, and from the bottom at 25 feet below ground surface. Locations of soil samples
collected from the limits of the excavation are shown oil Figure 3. The soil removed in the
process of excavation was stockpiled on the northwest and east sides of the Site.
All soil samples were collected in clean brass tubes that measured two incht;s in dig meter
and six inches long. Soil from the exeavation was brought up to the surface in the bucket
of the excavator, and three to twelve inches of soil were scraped away from the surface.
The brass tube was t",ren driven 1tnlo the rtewly exposed surface and filled completely so that
no headspace remained in the tube at either end. lmmediately after filling, each end of the
tube was covered with aluminum foil and a plastic cap and thencaaled with duct tape. The
samples were then labeled and stored on ice it a closed cooler chest until delivery to the
laboratory.
k
ROUX ASSO(:IAXES 5 Dae ff t 110677613!L I
ONE 0 All! 111:
1nna rar+e.,nwrw
