 U
•
4 All wells with standing water were purged during the fourth quarter 2002 Stratus attempted to
sample wells with standing water during the first quarter 2003 Due to the low volume of water in
most of the wells, samples could only be collected from wells MW-2 and VW-6 In most of the
other wells, the thickness of water in the well was not great enough to enter the bailer, or
sediment to the well prevented the bailer check valve from seating allowing water to drain from the
bailer before it could be retrieved from the well
WORK PROPOSED FOR NEXT QUARTER(Second 2003)
1 Stratus will continue to remove floating product from well MW-1 on a weekly basis, monitor free
product thickness in selected wells, and remove floating product when necessary
2 At the request of PHSIEHD, Stratus measured the depth-to-water In all vapor extraction and
monitoring wells during the first quarter 2003 Wells with measureable water were purged, when
possible Those wells that contain measureable water during the second quarter 2003 will be
sampled without purging Wells that recovered within 24 hours will be purged and sampled as usual
(except the domestic supply well)
3 Stratus will make a second attempt to sample select vapor extraction and monitoring wells Wells
MW-2 and VW-6 will be purged prior to sampling and a grab sample will be collected from the
domestic well as in previous quarters Stratus will attempt to collect grab samples from other wells
with standing water (the wells will not be purged prior to sampling) The next sampling event is
tentatively scheduled for June 2003 Groundwater samples will be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), tertiary
butyl alcohol (TBA), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), dl-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl
ether (ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), and ethanol using
USEPA Method 8260B
4 Upon approval of the previously submitted Work Plan, Stratus will Implement efforts to obtain offsite
access in order to implement the proposed assessment activities
DISCUSSION
During quarterly monitoring activities on March 24, 2003, floating product was observed in wells MW-1,
VW-1, and VW-4 During the weekly visits to the site, product was measured in well MW-1 at thicknesses
ranging from a sheen to 0 10 feet thick, in well VW-4 between a sheen and 0 12 feet thick, and a product
sheen was measured in well VW-1 During each site visit, free product in the wells was manually bailed,
and placed in properly labeled DOT-approved drums pending disposal Approximately 27 5 gallons of a
mixture comprising of free product and water was bailed from wells MW-1 and VW-4 during the first
quarter 2003 Approximately 109 5 gallons of product/water mixture have been bailed to date Product
thickness measurements and volumes of liquid bailed are summarized in Table 1
In wells MW-3 through MW-9, VW-1, VW-2, VW-3, VW-5, VW-7, VW-9 through VW-14, VW-16, and
VW-20, there was less than 1 foot of water column In the well, the water in these wells does not appear to
be formation water, therefore the wells were not sampled Wells VW-8, and VW-16 through VW-19 were
dry Well VW-15 was inaccessible Groundwater In wells screened within the upper water-bearing zone
(MW-2, VW-4, and VW-6)was measured at depths between 36 10 and 59 47 feet bgs, approximately 0 03
to 0 70 feet lower than groundwater elevations measured during the fouth quarter 2002 Wells MW-2 and
VW-6 bailed dry during purging Groundwater in well MW-1 (screened in the lower water-bearing zone)
. was measured at 105 20 feet bgs, 0 17 feet higher than the groundwater measured during the fourth
P IBP-Arco for URS\6100\Quarter1y\2003\Arco_6100_1 Q03 doe 5rkATUS
