On July 27b, Condor Earth
Technologies, Inc. (Condor) conducted monitoring of the site and found that the destructive
efficiency had dropped to between 80% and 90%. Inlet concentration was approximately 55 parts
per million (ppm) and outlet concentrations varied between 5 and 10 ppm. Under the air permit
requirement for 95% efficiency, we could not continue operation.
The recent restart confirmed that the soil vapor concentrations had not returned to the high
concentrations (over 1000 ppm) measured two years ago. In fact, the inlet concentrations were
consistent with those immediately before the system was shut down in February 2001 .
Consequently, Condor contacted a carbon-treatment system supplier to evaluate the costs of
carbon treatment of the existing concentrations.
The following comparisons assume no installation cost of the thermal treatment system, as it is
already in place, and assumes that the carbon system would use the existing vapor extraction
pump (now attached to the thermal treatment system).
Estimated cost of thermal treatment (natural gas only):
Total monthly cost for September 2000 — January 2001 : $ 14, 119.63
Total number of days of usage (same date range): 152 days
Cost per day of natural gas: $92.89
ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERING GEOTECHNICAL
hftp://www,condorearth.com
