I
REPORT
QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER MONITORING
THIRD QUARTER-JULY 1999
' Canepa's Car Wash
6230 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, Cahfornia
' August 20, 1999
1 0 INTRODUCTION
Condor Earth Technologies, Inc (Condor) conducted quarterly groundwater monitoring on July 26,
1999, at the Canepa's Car Wash facility located at 6230 Pacific Avenue in Stockton, California (Figure 1,
Appendix A) This report was prepared by Condor at the request of the property owner, Mr Remo
Canepa
The scope-of-work performed during the quarterly groundwater monitoring event was described in
Condor's Pi oposal for,Srte Evaluation and Groundwater Monitoring(April 8, 1996) The scope-of-work
presented in the proposal was approved by Mr Ronald Rowe of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHSiEHD) The PHS/EHD subsequently modified the
approved scope-of-work to include gasoline oxygenates/additives analysis of the site groundwater
samples This report includes a site background, a description of the fieldwork and laboratory analyses
performed for the July 1999, quarterly groundwater monitoring event, discussion of results, and
recommendations
2.0 SITE BACKGROUND
Canepa's Car Wash consists of an automated car washing facility, a fuel station, and a convenience store
(Figure 2, Appendix A) The car wash and fiiel station have been in operation for than two decades
In the Spring of 1993, three underground storage tanks (USTs), fuel lines and dispensers were removed
and replaced with a double walled system The USTs consisted of two 12,000-gallon gasoline USTs and
one 5,000-gallon diesel UST Upon removal of the USTs and piping, it was discovered that the fuel lines
had leaked and that the USTs had been overfilled Approximately 600 cubic yards of soil were removed
from the UST excavation area
Beginning in March, 1993, one soil boring and a network of nine soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells were
drilled and installed in the area of the fuel dispenser islands Between September, 1993, and March,
1994, eight monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-8) were installed In March, 1994, a soil vapor
extraction system was installed and operated In the Fall of 1996, it was determined that the SVE system
was inadequate and operation of the system was terminated
Condor has conducted Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring activities at the site since August, 1996
Analyses of groundwater samples collected trom the SVE wells (SVE-1 through 9) indicate that high
concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX),total petroleum hydi ucai bores
quantified as gasoline (rPH-G), and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) are present in the former location
of the fuel dispenser islands
t CONDOR
