I
REPORT
61 QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER MONITORING
' SECOND QUARTER-APRIL 1999
Canepa's Car Wash
6230 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, California
May 31, 1999
10 INTRODUCTION
Condor Earth Technologies, Inc (Condor) conducted quarterly groundwater monitoring on April 20 and
21, 1999, at the Canepa's Car Wash facility located at 6230 Pacific Avenue in Stockton, California
(Figure I, Appendix A) This report was prepared by Condor at the request of the property owner, Mr
Remo Canepa
rThe scope-of-work performed during the quarterly groundwater monitoring event was described in
Condor's Propoval fot Site Evaluation and Gi oundwater Monitoring (Api it 8, 1996) The scope-of-work
I presented in the proposal was approved by Mr Ronald Rowe of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) The PHS/EHD subsequently modified the
approved scope-of-work to include gasoline oxygenates/additives analysts of the site groundwater
samples This report includes a site background, a description of the fieldwork and laboratory analyses
performed for the April I999, quarterly groundwater monitoring event, discussion of results, and
recommendations
2 0 SITE BACKGROUND
Canepa's Car Wash consists of an automated car washing facility, a fuel station, and a convenience store
(Figure 2, Appendix.A) The car wash and fuel station have been in operation for than two decades
In the Spring of 1993, three underground storage tanks (USTs), fuel lines and dispensers were removed
and replaced with a double walled system The USTs consisted of two 12,000-gallon gasoline USTs and
one 5,000-gallon diesel UST Upon removal of the USTs and piping, it was discovered that the fuel lines
I had leaked and that the USTs had been overfilled Approximately 600 cubic yards of soil were removed
from the UST excavation area
Beginning in March, 1993, one soil boring and a network of nine soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells were
drilled and installed in the area of the fuel dispenser islands Between September, 1993, and March,
1994, eight monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-S) were installed In March, 1994, a soil vapor
extiaUioii systein was installed and operated In the Fall of j99 it was determined that the SVE system
was inadequate and operation of the system was terminated
Condor his conducted Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring activities at the site since August 1996 _
Analyses of giouindwater sarnpl" collected from selected SVE wells(SVE-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 S, and 9) indicate
that high concentrations of beniene, toluene ethyl benzene and total xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (fPH-G), and niethyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) are present in the
former location of the fuel dispenser islands
k
Irw CONDOR
