4 !,
Fourth Quarter,2002 Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
Canepa's Car Wash,Pacific Avenue,Stockton,CA
Page 4
SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM
. Regular maintenance of the trailer mounted Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) system, which included belt
replacement, was conducted on September 4, 2002. The weekly PID reading of the SVE system effluent
indicated breakthrough on September 20, 2002 at 2 parts per million by volume. The system was shut
down on September 23, 2002 and change-out of the carbon system was conducted on September 30,
2002.
Quarterly soil vapor sampling from the influent, mid tank and effluent sample ports was conducted on
September 30, 2002. The soil vapor samples were submitted for laboratory analysis of BTEX constituents
and MTBE. During the September SVE sampling event, the mid tank soil vapor sample indicated
concentrations of BTEX constituents and MTBE below the laboratory reporting limit, and therefore the
destruction efficiency of the SVE system was estimated at 100%. Analytical results of the vapor samples
are included in Table 3, below and in Attachment C.
Laboratory certificates of analyses and chain of custody record are included in Attachment E.
Table 3
SVE System Vapor Sample Laboratory Analytical Results(September 30, 2002)
Date Sample ID benzene toluene ethyl benzene xylenes MTBE TPH-G PID(ppm)
9/30/2002 1707B-influent-9130102 5.1 7.0 6.8 0.7 X5.0 NA 43
9/30/2002 1707B-midtanks-9/30/02 <0.15 a0.15 X0.15 ¢0.25 <1.5 NA 2
9/30/2002 1707$-effluent-9130/02 <0.15 X0.15 <0.15 X0.25 <1.5 NA 0
Note:Air matrix units are reported as ppm (µL/L).
PID=Photoionization detector.
NA=Not analyzed.
ppm=Parts per million.
FUTURE WORK/RECOMMENDATIONS
The SJCEHD has indicated that quarterly groundwater monitoring continue at the site. In a letter dated
July 30, 2002, Condor requested temporary shut-down of the SVE unit based on data that indicates
dwindling influent concentrations and to allow its relocation as part of the additional development of the
site planned by the property owner. The SJCEHD and Condor have agreed, however, that the SVE unit
will be operated until development is imminent. Condor is currently preparing a Problem Assessment
Report (PAR) and a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for the site to be submitted under separate cover.
Following submittal of the PAR and CAP and approval of a comprehensive remedial approach for the
site, the SVE unit is expected to be restarted. The next quarterly groundwater monitoring event is
scheduled for January 2003.
's
R
 CONDOR
