A representative from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District observed the system
start-up. Vapor samples from the influent and mid tank locations were collected in Tedlar bags and
submitted for laboratory analysis of BTEX constituents and MTBE. Analytical results of the vapor
samples are included in Table 3, below and in Appendix E. The efficiency of the soil vapor extraction
system has been estimated based on a correction factor derived from the results of the initial laboratory
analyses of soil vapor samples collected on October 16, 2001 and the concurrent PID measurements. The
PID measured vapor concentration multiplied by the correction factor of 0.07 provides an estimate of the
vapor concentration as total BTEX. The destruction efficiency of the SVE system is 100%.
The system influent and effluent flow rates and influent, mid tank and effluent soil vapor concentrations
are measured weekly using a pitot tube and PID, respectively. Soil vapor samples for laboratory anaaysis
will be collected quarterly. The SVE system monitoring field form is included in Appendix D.
Table 3
SVE System Vapor Sample Laboratory Analytical Results (March 13, 2002)
Date Sample ID benzene toluene ethyl benzene xylenes MTBE PID(ppm)
3/13/2002 1707B-Inlet-3/13/02-1440 0.75 1.3 0.47 5.2 <1.5 111
3/13/2002 170713-Mid-3/13/02-1443 <0.15 <0.15 <0.15 <0.25 <1.5 0
Note:Air matrix units are reported as ppmv(pL/L).
PID=Photoioni2ation detector.
ppm=parts per million
i CONDOR
