i
Subsurface Investigation December 12, 1990
Former Unocal Station No. 2859, Stockton, California AGS 38012-5
A municipal well operated by California Water Service is approximate 800 feet nodheast
and downgradient of the site. According California Water Service personnel, the well's
submersible pump is 160 feet below ground service.
FIELD WORK
Applied GeoSystems conducted field work at this site in accordance with our Work Plan for
a Limited Subsurface Investigation(Applied GeoSystems,February 7, 1989)and Site Safety
PIan 38012-35 (Applied GeoSystems, August 3, 1989). Applied GeoSystems' standard
methods for field work are described in Appendix A.
Applied GeoSystems was onsite August 21 through August 25, 1989, to observe Spectrum
Exploration,Inc.of Stockton,California,drill three 6-inch diameter borings;borings&4 and
B-5 were offsite and boring B-6 was onsite. Boring locations are shown on the Generalized
Site Plan, Plate P-3.
Boring B-4 was sampled continuously;borings 13-5 and B-6 were sampled at 5-foot intervals.
Soil samples were classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System (Plate P-5).
Descriptions of sediments encountered during drilling are presented in the Logs of Borings
(Plates P-6 through P-13). During sampling,a field photoionization detector(PID)was used
to characterize the relative levels of hydrocarbon vapors emitted by soil samples. These
readings are shown on the Logs of Barings.
Ground water was encountered at a depth of approximately 44 feet below grade in borings
------ - -
and B-5. Borings B-4-and B=S-were-ferminated at--54-arid-56-feet.-respectively, and---
__B_-4 - - -
E
converted into 2-inch-diameter ground water monitoring wells(MW-4 and MW-5).
