PACIFIC <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL <br /> GROUP INC <br /> February 4, 1997 <br /> Project 310-040 5A <br /> Mr Bob Boust <br /> Unocal Corporation <br /> 2000 Crow Canyon Place, Suite 400 <br /> San Ramon, California 94583 <br /> Re Remedial Action Performance Summary- October through December 1996 <br /> Unocal Service Station 2859 <br /> 1665 Pacific Avenue <br /> Stockton, California <br /> Dear Mr Boust <br /> This Ietter presents a remedial action performance summary for the site referenced <br /> above Attachment A presents a system performance summary which includes key <br /> operating parameters Certified analytical reports with chain-of-custody documentation <br /> are included as Attachment B, and field data sheets are presented as Attachment C The <br /> status of recent remedial activities is presented below <br /> Remedial Performance Evaluation <br /> • During the current reporting period, the soil vapor extraction system was <br /> approximately 73 percent operational System down time was due to propane tank <br /> refueling and to investigate air discharge permit compliance The system was shut <br /> down on November 6, 1996 at the end of the long-term pilot test <br /> • Samples taken on October 23, 1996 showed a destruction efficiency below the <br /> permitted limit of 95 percent and exceeded the total daily VOC emissions of <br /> 2 pounds per day Confirmation samples were taken on November 6, 1996 and the <br /> system was shut down Confirmation sample results indicated that the system was <br /> not fulfilling permit requirements In a letter dated December 20, 1996, PACIFIC <br /> notified the San Joaquin Valley Unified Aar Pollution Control District of the emission <br /> problem and of the pilot test completion <br /> 2025 Gateway Place, Suite 440, San Jose, California 95110 (408) 441-7500 FAX (408) 441-7539 <br />
