Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. -
22 July 2002
AGE Project No. 95-0173
Mr. Jeff Wong
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202 N
SUBJECT: Replacement of Well MW-13
CALIFORNIA FUELS CARDLOCK STATION r
.k.
2402 Pacific Avenue, Stockton CA N
w
Dear Mr. Wong:
In accordance with our telephone conversation on 15 July 2002,Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
(AGE)is writing this letter to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD)
recommending the replacement of well MW-13. The following is a brief summary of events that
have recently transpired at well MW-13:
• On 20 June 2002, ground water monitoring and sampling was performed at the above
referenced site. During monitoring activities, it was discovered that sediment had filled the
bottom of well MW-13 from 75 feet to 100 feet below surface grade (bsg).
• On 26 June 2002,well MW-13 was redeveloped to remove excessive sediment that had filled
the bottom of the well. During redevelopment activities, it was discovered that the well
casing had become separated at approximately 75 feet bsg, thus allowing sediment to
accumulate inside the well casing.
The integrity of well MW-13 has become compromised and needs to be replaced. Therefore, AGE
is recommending that the well casing at MW-13 be replaced by over-drilling techniques to a depth
of 100 feet bsg utilizing a hollow stem drill rig and 10-inch diameter hollow-stem augers; following
over-drilling activities, well MW-13 will be replaced in accordance with the SJCEHD-approved
work plan, dated 16 May 2000, with the following exceptions:
1. Based on lithologic and analytical data collected from MW-13 (i.e. eight consecutive quarters
detecting petroleum constituents) and cone penetrometer testing (CPT) data collected at
boring CPT-2A, located less than five feet from MW-13, AGE believes that replacement of
well MW-13 would be better served by extending the soil boring below 100 feet bsg to
837 Shaw Road,Stockton,California 95215
Telephone (209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
