After three rounds of quarterly monitoring, total petroleum as gasoline (TPH
g) and aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene,and xylene)continued to be reported from
MW-13 samples:
MW-13 TPJ-1Benzene Toluene Ethyl-be ene Xylene
09-29-00 8,900 270 1,200 260 490
12-21-00 2,300 81 92 93 280
03-21-01 1,100 20 14 34 35
Quarterly Repon-Fint Quarter 2001 (the QMR) dated May 21,2001 prepared by Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc.Results are in Etg/ml.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD) agrees with the
conclusion as stated in the Qtrartt7l Report-Fint Quarter 2001 (the QMR) dated May 21,2001 prepared by
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.(AGE) that the dissolved petroleum hydrocarbon plume extends to at least
100 feet bsg. Additional work is required to determine the vertical extent of the contamination in groundwater.
In a telephone conversation on June 7,2001,AGE stated that they would like to employ cone penetrometer
technology(CPT)to evaluate the vertical definition of the plume rather than setting another well with screen
section arbitrarily set below 100 feet bsg. PHS/EHD agrees to this approach. To eliminate cross-
contamination from the known contaminated zones above the target depth where the samples are to be
collected,PHS/EHD recommends that you avoid making multiple trips through the same CPT boring by
collecting samples at a single target depth per CPT boring. Note that the use of CPT may not necessary
preclude the installation of monitoring wells.
Submit a work plan that would define the vertical extent of the groundwater contamination to PHS/EHD by
July 5,2001.
