PUBLIC HISALTH SERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY Y. z
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION .
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer P
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
2091468-3420
DAVID ATWATER MAR 3 ZQ
'VAN DE POL ENTERPRISES
P O BOX 1107
STOCKTON CA 95201
RE: CALIFORNIA FUELS STATION CODE: 1214
2402 PACIFIC AVENUE
STOCKTON CA 95204
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed
Quarterly Report- October 1999 dated December 13, 1999 prepared by Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc. Maps and figures were not included in this report.
PHS/EHD agrees with the report's recommendation to reduction of quarterly monitoring events to
semi-annual basis until remediation at the site is initiated. Maps and figures of the site and well locations
should be included in all future quarterly monitoring reports.
&Air Sparge Well #2B (AW-2B) is the deepest screened well on site with the screen interval of AW-2B
located from 60 to 70 feet below surface grade (bsg). Petroleum hydrocarbon analytes have been
consistently detected in AW-2B groundwater samples. Analytical results of groundwater samples have
been as high as 51,000 parts per billion (ppb) of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-g) and 7,800 ppb of
Benzene (ran/1999). PHS/EHD approved Work Plan Addendum -June 1998 dated June 8, 1998
prepared by AGE in an effort to define the vertical definition of the contamination in groundwater.
On July 1, 1998, Boring#10 (B-10) was advanced to the depth of 95 feet bsg at a location approximately
5 feet south of AW-2B. However, when groundwater was not encountered at below 77 feet bsg in B-10,
the proposed monitoring well was not installed.
PHS/EHD recommends interim corrective action proceed as scheduled; however, vertical definition of
the contamination in groundwater must be defined before the remediation plan can be considered final.
Submit a work plan that will define the vertical extent of the contamination in groundwater no later
than May 1, 2000.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong, REHS Margaret Lagorio,REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB, Central Valley Region-Marty Hartzell
c: Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.-Tim Cuellar
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
