APPENDIX C
QUALITY ASS URANCEIQ UALITY CONTROL
The purpose of this appendix is to provide an internal means for
controlling and reviewing data collection and management. The
fundamental mechanisms for achieving these quality objectives fall into
the categories of prevention, assessment, and correction:
• Quality control throughout sampling, analysis, data assessment
(review), qualification and feedback;
• Quality assessment through periodic field audits and continual
informal review; and
• Permanent correction of conditions that adversely affect quality
through a closed-loop corrective action system.
This appendix addresses analytical testing procedures, laboratory quality
control procedures, laboratory equipment calibration, auditing criteria,
and corrective action measures.
Analytical Procedures
Analyses will be performed by a California-certified laboratory.
Analytical procedures will follow standard EPA methodologies.
Laboratory Quality Control Procedures
Quality assurance staff at the laboratory will have a program that
monitors laboratory quality through the analysis of quality assurance
(QA) and quality control (QC) samples. These samples will monitor the
sample preparation, analysis, sample container preparation, sample
storage, and the cleanliness of glassware preparation.
The lab will maintain a written QA/QC Standard Operating Procedure
(SOP) documents that will be available to laboratory personnel
C-1
