SECTION 6
OPERATION AND MONITORING OF THE
REMEDIAL ACTION
This section presents the following operating and monitoring procedures
associated with implementation of the remedial action:
• Procedures for tuning and operating the dual phase extraction
wells to achieve the desired vapor/liquid ratio in the extracted
stream;
• Pulsed operating procedures at dual phase and SVE wells; and,
• The ground water and soil vapor monitoring program that will be
conducted to document attainment of treatment objectives for
vadose zone soil remediation and capture and treatment of the
A-zone ground water VOC plume.
The Treatment System equipment operation and maintenance procedures
will be compiled in an Operation and Maintenance Plan (O&M Plan),
which will be prepared during system construction. The O&M Plan will
be appended to the construction implementation report, discussed in
Section 7.
Dual Phase Extraction Well Tuning
The extraction tubes will be positioned within the dual phase extraction
wells such that a vapor flow rate of approximately 15 scfm and ground
water flowrate of approximately 4 gpm per extraction well is achieved.
These flow conditions will establish the RVIs and ground water ROIs as
described in Section 3, and will ensure that adequate velocities are
established within each extraction tube for the in-situ stripping of VOCs
from ground water within the extraction tubes.
To achieve required flow conditions, extraction tubes will be placed
slightly above the static water table. If the tube is positioned lower within
the water table, a greater quantity of ground water will be withdrawn,
6-1
