•• lk
19 December 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0128
4.5. PROGRESS/CONFIRMATION SOIL SAMPLING
After approximately six months of operation or efficiency of the unit has declined, soil samples will
be collected from the"core"petroleum hydrocarbon impacted area at the site. Analytical results of
the soil samples will serve to approximate remaining petroleum hydrocarbon levels and determine if
continuing remedial operation is necessary.
Samples will be collected utilizing a direct push technology. AGE proposes to advance soil probe
borings in the "core"petroleum hydrocarbon impacted area at the site to depths of approximately
50 feet bsg. Probe boring will be advanced using a Geoprobe 5400 soil probing unit.
Discrete soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at a depth of 10 feet bsg
utilizing a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with pre-cleaned 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass
sleeves.Soil samples will be preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon
sheets, plastic end caps and sealed with tape. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the following
information:soil probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.Soil samples will be
transported in a cooler under ice to a DHS-certified laboratory for analysis ofTPH-g,TPH-d,BTEX,
MTBE, DIPE, TAME, ETBE and TBA in accordance with EPA methods 8015m, 8020 and 8260.
4.6. BORING ABANDONMENT
All borings not completed as monitoring or extraction wells will be permanently sealed to prevent
vertical migration of contaminants. Soil borings shall be abandoned by backfilling with portland
cement from the total depth to surface grade.
4.7. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being
washed with a solution of Alconox. Drilling augers will be pressure washed prior to starting each
boring.
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
