' 23 September 2002
i AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
' 3 1 GROUND-WATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM OPERATION
On-site extraction well EW-1 was adjusted at the well-head to continuously extract ground water
' during the second quarter 2002 at an average flow rate of 3 5 GPM,the extracted ground water was
routed through a ground water treatment system consisting of granular activated carbon(GAC)and
Sunsolve® Following treatment, water was discharged underground via 1-Inch diameter, schedule
' 80 polyvinylchlonde(PVC)pipe underground along the west side of the site to the City of Stockton
discharge line located In Rose Marie Lane A diagram of the remediation system is provided In
Figure 2a
' Based on effluent flow meter readings (Table 4), approximately 280,000 gallons of treated water
were extracted and discharged to the City of Stockton sewer system during the second quarter 2002
Iunder City of Stockton Public Works Department(SPWD)Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit
No 01
32 GROUND-WATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
I ! On 22 April, 13 May and Ob June 2002, AGE collected grab ground water samples from the water
treatment system, the water samples were collected from valved ports located upstream (Influent)
and downstream(effluent)of the treatment unit In addition, a mid-treatment steam sample was also
collected on 13 May 2002 to analyze for MTBE break-though, the mid-treatment sample was
collected from a dedicated brass sampling port at the Inlet to the second GAC vessel
Influent and mid-treatment samples were collected in laboratory-supplied 40-m1 EPA-approved
volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample
preservative, and Into 1-liter amber bottles without preservative Effluent samples were collected in
the same containers and Into 500-milliliter plastic bottles without preservative Care was taken to
ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the vials after filling and capping
IWater sample containers were labeled with the sample designation, date, time, and sampler's initials
Subsequently, the samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to MAI for analysis The samples were analyzed for
• TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
• BTEX and MTBE by EPA Methods 8020
In addition,to satisfy SPWD Industrial Wastewater Discharge Pennit No 01, effluent ground water
samples were analyzed for
IAdvanced CeoEnvironmental Inc
