26 October 2000
AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
44 GROUND WATER EXTRACTION ACTIVITIES
Ground water will be extracted from the extraction well (EW-1) and potentially from soil vapor
extraction well VW-1 and ground water monitoring well MW-6, if necessary, (Figure 5) utilizing
submersible, 4-inch (2-inch for monitoring wells) diameter Grundfos Rediflow self-priming
downhole pumps Each pump which will be outfitted with automated electronic shut-off controls to
control water entering the system During the pumping operation, the estimated ground water
extraction flow rate will be betwee four and six GPM if multiple wells are used AGE anticipates
total ground water extraction flow between r ean four GPM from an individual well, therefore
sur e pum in i Ile ma well head if multiple wells are utilized, to
control the volume of produced water
From each well head, extracted ground water will be routed through a sediment pre-filter and into
a 750-gallon holding tank, from which it will pass through a process pump, to the closed-loop air
stripper and finally the GAC vessel The air-stripper is designed to volatilize as much diesel and
gasoline compounds as possible prior to introduction into the GAC treatment, intended specifically
to adsorb MTBE The exhaust from the air-stripper is designed collected volatilize hydrocarbons
through carbon adsorption
Sample ports will be located in appropriate position after the air-stripper, after the GAC vessel and
on the air-stripper exhaust for monitoring purposes A generalized design of the treatment system
is depicted in Figure 5
4 4 1 Ground Water Extraction Piping System
A network of three-inch diameter, schedule 80 PVC piping will be installed in a trench
approximately '/z foot wide by 1'/7 feet deep PVC schedule 80 PVC conduits for pump power will
also be installed within the trench The PVC piping will be routed from each ground water extraction
well head to a water holding tank, the holding tank will be connected to the air-stripper and the
piping will be directly connected to the GAC ground water treatment system A plan of the proposed
piping system and enclosed unit location are depicted in Figure 5 The PVC piping will be installed
on the ground water monitoring wells in preparation for potential future extraction
At the direction of the property owner and due to property use constraints, the location of the ground
water pump and treat system is proposed to be at the southwest corner of the site (Figure 5) This
proposed location of the pump and treat system will allow the site to conduct their day-to-day
business without interference from the operation of the remediation system The pump and treat
system will be secured by a chain-linked, gated enclosure will be approximately 15 feet wide 20 feet
long and six feet high
Advanced GeoEnNtronmental,Inc
