15 September 1995
AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
' 4 2 PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
The sample collected from VW1 contains benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes at
concentrations of 24,000, 44,000, 2,800 and 20,000 pgA(parts per billion ppb), respectively TPH-g
was detected at 230,000 ppb while TPH-d was found to be present at 8,100 ppb in this sample
' Benzene was detected in the sample from MW-2 at 16 ppb TPH-g, TPH-d and BTE&X were not
detected in MW-1 or MW-3 The analytical results of the ground water samples are summarized in
Table 2 The laboratory report and chain of custody are included to Appendix B
5.0. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The detection of elevated concentrations of hydrocarbon compounds in VW-1 indicates that this well
is located in the immediate vicinity of the hydrocarbon plume However, the non-detection of
' hydrocarbons in wells MW-I and MW-3 and the minor hydraulic gradient at the site, indicates that
the dissolved hydrocarbon plume is limited in lateral extent Remediation of impacted soil should
prevent future migration of hydrocarbons from the soil to the ground water and will augment natural
degradation of the hydrocarbons in the ground water Soil remediation at the site should be initiated
as soon as possible
' We recommend that the next quarterly ground water monitoring be scheduled for September 1995
Based on the change of the ground water direction, each monitoring well should be sampled, during
' the next sampling event
6.0. LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities The findings were mainly based upon
analytical results provided by an independent Iaboratory Evaluations of the geologic conditions at
the site have been made from a linuted number of available data points (i a monitoring wells), and
subsurface conditions may vary away from these data points No other warranty, expressed or
imphea, is made as to the professional recommendations contained in ttus report
