Based
on all the available information, remediation of the site appears to have been effective and
additional remediation or assessment is not necessary.
f In order to help your office review this site, I have summarized the information based on the
following six categories:
Has the leak been stopped?
Yes. The original steel tanks and lines were removed in November 1989. New tanks were
installed in a new cavity. Additionally, a septic tank and associated leach field were removed
in 1992.
Has the source been removed?
Yes. In an attempt to remove as much of the hydrocarbons as possible, Unocal excavated over
1,200 cubic yards of impacted soil from tank cavity and product line trenches. In 1992, an
additional 1,350 cubic yards of impacted soil was excavated during the removal of the septic tank
and leach field. All impacted soil was removed and properly treated or disposed. Because of
access limitations, minor impacted soil remains in place at the northerly end of the western pump
island. Based on additional soil borings and a monitoring well in this area, the remaining
hydrocarbons were not only isolated, but very limited in extent and volume.
- f
v
