BACKGROUND
After completion of soil sampling activities from the fuel
tank pit and product pipe trenches in December, 1989, a
water sample was taken from the on-site domestic well
system. The water sample was taken while the pump was
operating to avoid drawing water from the holding tank and
after the well was purged.
The water sample was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocar-
bons (TPH) as gasoline using EPA methods 5030 and 8015,
benzene, toluene, xylenes and ethylbenzene (BTX&E) using EPA
503 . 1, halogenated volatile organics using EPA 502. 1,
tetraethyl lead using DHS-LUFT and ethylene dibromide using
EPA 504 .
Analyses of the water sample from the on-site domestic well
indicate 160 ppb TPH as gasoline with non-detectable
concentrations of all other analytes.
Mr. Harlin Knoll of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services (SJCPHS) , per telephone conversations on February 7
and March 8, 1990, has required that this water well be
properly destroyed due to the levels of TPH as gasoline
indicated in the laboratory analyses results and that one
additional water sample be collected after all piping and
the pump are removed from the well, and the well purged of
at least three to four well volumes.
A recent site inspection conducted on March 15, 1990 by Mr.
Don Braun of Kaprealian Engineering, Inc. (KEI) and Mr.
Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS indicates that the vicinity of
