BACKGROUND <br /> After completion of soil sampling activities from the fuel <br /> tank pit and product pipe trenches in December, 1989, a <br /> water sample was taken from the on-site domestic well <br /> system. The water sample was taken while the pump was <br /> operating to avoid drawing water from the holding tank and <br /> after the well was purged. <br /> The water sample was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocar- <br /> bons (TPH) as gasoline using EPA methods 5030 and 8015, <br /> benzene, toluene, xylenes and ethylbenzene (BTX&E) using EPA <br /> 503 . 1, halogenated volatile organics using EPA 502. 1, <br /> tetraethyl lead using DHS-LUFT and ethylene dibromide using <br /> EPA 504 . <br /> Analyses of the water sample from the on-site domestic well <br /> indicate 160 ppb TPH as gasoline with non-detectable <br /> concentrations of all other analytes. <br /> Mr. Harlin Knoll of the San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services (SJCPHS) , per telephone conversations on February 7 <br /> and March 8, 1990, has required that this water well be <br /> properly destroyed due to the levels of TPH as gasoline <br /> indicated in the laboratory analyses results and that one <br /> additional water sample be collected after all piping and <br /> the pump are removed from the well, and the well purged of <br /> at least three to four well volumes. <br /> A recent site inspection conducted on March 15, 1990 by Mr. <br /> Don Braun of Kaprealian Engineering, Inc. (KEI) and Mr. <br /> Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS indicates that the vicinity of <br />
