KEI-P89-1104 .QR4
February 3 , 1992
Page 2
the waste oil tank at a depth of 9. 5 feet below grade. Sample
locations are as shown on the attached Site Plan, Figure 2 .
KEI returned to the site on November 20, 1989, in order to collect
soil samples from the on-site product pipe trenches. Four samples,
labeled P1 through P4 , were collected from the product pipe
trenches. Two samples, labeled VP1 and VP2, were collected from
the vapor pipe trenches, and one sample, labeled WP1, was collected
from the waste oil remote-fill pipe trench. All seven soil samples
were collected at depths ranging from 2 . 5 to 3 . 5 feet below grade.
Pipe trench sample point locations are as shown on the attached
Site Plan, Figure 4 .
In an attempt to remove as much of the contaminated soil as
possible in the vicinity of the fuel tank pit, KEI returned to the
site on December 5, 1989, to observe additional soil excavation in
the area of sample points A2 and B2 , as described in KEIIIs work
plan (KEI-P89-1104 .P1) dated November 22 , 1989. Soil was excavated
from the southerly half of the fuel tank pit to a depth of 26. 5
feet below grade. Two soil samples, labeled A2 (25. 5) and B2 (26. 5) ,
were collected from the fuel tank pit (one of the additional
samples was collected below sample point location A2 at a depth of
25. 5 feet below grade, and the other additional sample was
collected below sample point location B2 at a depth of 26. 5 feet
below grade, respectively) . Four soil samples, labeled SW1(13) ,
SW1 (19) , SW2 (20/13) , and SW2 (20/19) , were also collected from the
fuel tank pit sidewalls at depths of 13 and 19 feet below grade.
Sample point locations are shown on the attached Site Plan, Figure
3 . Mr. Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS was present during sampling.
KEI again returned to the site on December 7, 1989 , in order to
complete sampling of the southerly half of the fuel tank pit. Two
soil samples, labeled SW3 (20/13) and SW3 (20/19) , were collected
from the tank pit sidewalls at depths of 13 and 19 feet below
grade, respectively. In addition, one soil sample, labeled NSW,
was collected from the northerly sidewall of the new fuel tank pit
at a depth of 13 . 5 feet below grade. Sample point locations are as
shown on the attached Site Plan, Figure 3 . On December 13 , 1989,
KEI completed sampling of the old fuel tank pit when three sidewall
soil samples, labeled SW4 (3) , SW5, and SW6, were collected from the
northerly half of the old fuel tank pit at depths of approximately
16 feet below grade. Sample point locations are shown on the
attached Site Plan, Figure 3 . Also on December 13 , 1989, four
additional soil samples, labeled P1(6) , P2 (17) , P3 (5) , and P4 (8) ,
were collected from the product pipe trenches beneath sample point
locations P1, P2 , P3 , and P4 , respectively. These sample depths
ranged from 5 to 17 feet below grade. The sample point locations
are as shown on the attached Site Plan, Figure 4 . After sampling,
the product pipe trenches were excavated to the sample depths.
