Pre-Tank Relining Site Assessment Report 1
The Southland Corporation 4501 North Pershing Avenue Stockton California February 28, 1997
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report is submitted by Fluor Daniel GTI, Inc.to summarize the results of the soil and groundwater
assessment conducted at Southland Store No. 17334, located at 4501 North Pershing Avenue in Stockton,
California (Figure 1). The scope of work included sampling soil from four angled and three vertical
geoprobe points beneath and adjacent to the three 10,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks
(USTs) at the site. In addition, groundwater samples were collected from three of the:geoprobe points
(Figure 2). The work scope was designed to fulfill the tank relining requirements of the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services (SJCPHS).
The work described in this report was completed at the site on February 20, 1997, in accordance with the
scope of work outlined in Fluor Daniel GTI's Pre-Tank-Relining Soil Assessment Work Plan, dated
February 3, 1997,which was accepted by the SJCPHS. ,
2.0 ASSESSMENT WORK
2.1 Permitting/Site-Specific Health and Safety'Plan
Fluor Daniel GTI conducted a technical review of all relevant information provided prior to proceeding with
site assessment work. Permits for the soil borings were obtained from the SJCPHS. Following a complete
review of site conditions, Fluor Daniel GTI prepared a site-specific Health and Safety Plan as required by
the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard"Hazardous Waste Operations and
Emergency Response"guidelines (2,9 CFR 1910.120).The document was reviewed and signed by all Fluor
Daniel GTI personnel and subcontractors prior to commencement of work at the site.
On February 7, 1997, Fluor Daniel GTI and a private utility locator met on site to locate underground utilities
and clear the proposed soil boring locations. Underground Service Alert (USA) was called 48 hours prior to
conducting drilling activities at the site.
2.2 Soil Sample Collection
On February 20, 1997, Fluor Daniel GTI supervised the advancement of seven geoprobe points: four
angled borings (GP1, GP2, GP5, and GP6) beneath the USTs,two vertical borings (GP3 and GP4)
adjacent to the eastern and northern edge of the UST pit, and one vertical boring (GP7) located upgradient
of the USTs and dispensers (Figure 2). The vertical borings adjacent to the UST pit were installed due to
limited rig access which prevented the installation of angled borings. Soil samples beneath the USTs were
collected at a vertical depth of 15 feet below ground surface (BGS), and samples were collected from the
three vertical borings at depths of 17 or 22 feet BGS. Mr.Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS was on site to
observe a portion of the drilling activities.
• i
0472ASMT RPT(Sthl-56)
FLUOR DANIEL GTI
I
I
