The Southland Corporation,Store#1'7334,4501 North Pershing Avenue,Stockton,CA January 15, 1998 e <br /> From the samples collected from the borings drilled on February 20, 1997, benzene was detected In soil <br /> sample GP-4-17'at a concentration of 0 0095 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) Total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-G)was not detected in any of the soil samples collected The highest <br /> methyl-tert-butyl ether(MTBE) concentration was reported in sample GP-1-15'at 0 76 mg/kg Presence of <br /> MTBE was confirmed by EPA method 8260 in the same sample at 0 91 mg/kg <br /> The highest dissolved benzene, MTBE, and TPH-G concentrations in groundwater samples collected <br /> February 20, 1997,were reported In sample GP-4 at 9,100 micrograms per liter(pg/L), 100,000 pg/L, and <br /> 150,000 pg/L, respectively Presence of MTBE was confirmed by EPA method 8260 in the same sample at <br /> 84,000 pg/L(Table 2) <br /> 3 0 SOIL AND GROUNDWATER ASSESSMENT WORK <br /> 3.1 Penn Min g/Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan <br /> Fluor Daniel GTI conducted a technical review of all relevant Information provided before proceeding wrth <br /> sde assessment work Permits for the on-site sod bonngs were not required by the SJCPHS for the <br /> Installation of the four on-site groundwater monitoring wells since permrts had already been Issued for the <br /> Initial site Investigation conducted on February 20, 1997, however a permit was required and obtained from <br /> the SJCPHS for the one off-site boring In addition, a Revocable Permit and an Encroachment Permit for <br /> the installation of the off-site groundwater monitoring well (MW-4)were obtained from the City of Stockton <br /> Public Works Department(Appendix A) Following a complete review of site conditions, Fluor Daniel GTI <br /> revised the wasting sde-specific Health and Safety Plan as required by the Occupational Safety and Health <br /> Administration (OSHA)Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response"guidelines (29 <br /> CFR 1910 120) The document was reviewed and signed by all Fluor Daniel GTI personnel and <br /> subcontractors prior to commencement of work at the site <br /> 3.2 Soil Borings <br /> On September 23 and 24,and November 25 and 26, 1997, Fluor Daniel GTI supervised the drilling of one <br /> off-site and four on-site soil bonngs to depths ranging from 35 to 40 feet below ground surface (BGS) <br /> utilizing a truck-mounted drill ng equipped with 8-inch outside-diameter(O D) hollow-stem augers All <br /> drilling equipment was steam cleaned prior to drilling each boring,and sampling equipment was washed in <br /> an Alconox(detergent)solution and rinsed with water between sampling intervals All sod and steam-clean <br /> water generated during the drilling was placed in labeled Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved <br /> 55-gallon drums and left on site pending transportation and disposal <br /> . 173+ar rpt <br /> FLUOR DANIEL GTI <br />
