The applicable test described in
this section is as follows:
"The special inspector shall take interior diameter measurements and, if
the cross-section of the tank
has compressed more than one percent of the original diameter, the tank
shall neither be certified nor
returned to service unless the tank is excavated and repaired to correct
the compression"
Based upon this criteria, both the 87 and 89 octane tanks should be accepted by
the County. These measurements, as well as the absence of any unrepairable
structural damage, have been confirmed by the special inspector, who will be
submitting a written report to me tomorrow afternoon. I will be forwarding a
copy of the inspector's report to you as soon as it is available.
The 92 octane tank, which is 6 years older than the other two tanks, and is
located in a separate tank hole, did not meet the required testing criteria and
will need to be replaced. The minimum diameter measured was 90.75 inches, which
exceeds the 1% allowance.
Based upon the inspection results, we are preparing plans for replacement of all
existing product and vapor recovery piping, replacement of the 92 octane tank
with a new, 12,000 ga Xerxes DW fiberglass tank, under dispenser containment,
and upgrading the existing 89 and 87 octane tanks with turbine sumps and related
monitoring. Plans will ready for submittal on this basis by the middle of next
week. We will pay all fees required for expedited plan check. .
z
