The
hydrocarbons evidenced in the latest round of sampling at this
site may be directly related to the increase in the water table
as noted in the quarterly report.
As mentioned in a letter to Chevron from this office dated March
261 1992 , the decision to reduce the frequency of the groundwater
monitoring events and/or the number of wells sampled should be
dependent on the site conditions, namely the depth to water data
in relation to the contaminant concentrations. All wells -should
be measured on a quarterly basis. Those wells that are
downgradient and on the perimeter of the property should be
sampled on a regular basis to verify that no further migration of
contaminants off site is occurring. Any wells that are
representative of site conditions should also be sampled on a
regular basis. Sampling of all the wells at the site should be
conducted if site conditions (ie: depth to water levels) indicate
that the sampling would yield useful and informative data
relative to future sampling events or possibly closure of the
site.
If Chevron would like to modify the groundwater monitoring at
this site, please submit a groundwater monitoring/sampling plan
that addresses the above mentioned issues.
A Division of Sae Joaquin County Health Care Semces
