Pershing Ave. <br /> Stockton, CA <br /> Review of the Quarterly Report dated March 8, 1991, and the accompanying letter from Chevron dated April <br /> 18, 1991, is complete. <br /> It appears from the quarterly sampling results and from the groundwater elevation results that the <br /> hydrocarbon levels have been decreasing in relation to the decline (drop) in the water table, leaving the <br /> hydrocarbons behind in the soil. This has been documented to be the case at other sites. While the water <br /> table is down, soil vapor extraction may be a useful tool and should be considered as a remedial alternative. <br /> Downgradient monitoring wells #8 and #11 have shown increases in hydrocarbon levels, indicating <br /> contamination has migrated off-site. To prevent further migration of contaminants off-site,investigation and <br /> implementation of remedial activities is warranted and should be initiated immediately,especially since the <br /> levels for benzene have been consistently above the maximum contaminant level. <br /> Monitoring on a quarterly basis of all monitoring wells should continue at this time.
