Page 3
trenches with the excavator and collecting soil samples from
the bucket and handled as described above.
Stockpile Sampling
Soil stockpiles generated from the fuel UGSTs and line
removal were sampled by collecting 4 discrete soil samples
for approximately every 50 cubic yards of excavated soil.
These four samples were then composited in the laboratory
and analyzed as one. Soil samples were collected by removing
the top 12 to 24 inches of soil, pushing a 2" x 6" brass
tube into the soil stockpile until completely full, then
removing, sealing and handling tube as already described.
Soil sample designations are SP-la-d through SP-5a-d for
samples collected from stockpiles generated from the fuel
UGSTs and line removals (approximately 250 cubic yards ) .
Stockpiled soil generated from the waste oil tank removal
(approximately 50 cubic yards ) were sampled discretly for
approximately every 12 1/2 cubic yards then composited in
the laboratory and analyzed as one sample for approximately
every 25 cubic yards . These samples are designated WS-la&b
and WS-2a&b. Soil sample designated WXS was collected from
the soil generated from the overexcavation along the western
edge of the waste oil pit and represents approximately 15
cubic yards .
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Analytical laboratory reports and chain-of-custody form are
attached in Appendix A. Summaries of the soil analytical
results are presented in Table A and Table B. The fuel UGST
excavation, trench and associated stockpile samples were
analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons calculated as
Gasoline (TPH-Gas ) according to EPA Method 8015 (modified) ,
and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX)
according to EPA Method 8020, EDBs and volatile Organic
Compounds according to EPA Methods 504 and 8240, and Total
Lead according to EPA Method 7420 .
Additional analysis for samples collected in the former
waste oil tank excavation and associated stockpiles also
include TPH-Diesel according to EPA Method 8015 (modified) ,
ICAP Metals according to EPA Methods 6010, 7196 and 7420,
Total Oil and Grease (TOG) according to EPA Method 3550, and
Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) according to EPA Method
8080 .
