Site Background Information: Moore Truck Lines
Page 3 of 3
• In December 2000, domestic well DW-2 was abandoned under EHD directive. DW-2 had
been out of service since 1978 due to sand infiltration issues. This made the well a
potential conduit for contamination, requiring destruction. Before destruction, a ground
water sample was collected on 12 December to determine if contaminants were present in
the well and a well video survey was conducted on 13 December since records could not
be found regarding well construction details or installation date. The ground water
sample results showed detections of total petroleum hydrocarbons qualified as diesel
(TPH-d), toluene and xylenes at concentrations of 280 µg/l, 1.0 µg/1 and 1.1 µg/1,
respectively. The survey found that the well was constructed using six-inch diameter
non-perforated steel casing extended to a depth of approximately 110 feet bsg. Water
entered the well through an open hole at the bottom of the casing. The actual end of the
casing was not located due to poor visibility caused by heavy floating bacteria and
incrustation. Static water level in the well was determined to be 59 feet bsg. Total depth
of the well was approximately 120 feet bsg. On 16 December DW-2 was destroyed
utilizing blast perforation and casing ripping techniques. Explosive charges and
projectiles (chrome-alloy steel round bullets)were attached to an explosive cord at fixed
intervals and lowered into the well; the explosive cord extended to the total depth of the
well. The well was then filled to surface grade using neat cement and the charges were
detonated. Perforations introduced into the well casing by the projectiles and explosive
cord provided pathways for the cement to fill voids and cavities extending into the
formation. The well was again filled to surface grade with neat cement. All work was
overseen by AGE and EHD personnel.
• On 27 and 28 September 2001,three soil borings were advanced at the site. Pilot borings
MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 were completedas ground water monitoring wells with a
screen interval from 55 feet to 75 feet bsg.-toil in the area of borings MW-2,MW-3 and
MW-4 were not impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons or fuel oxygenating compounds.
Ground water sampling has shown that none of the target analytes were detected in
samples collected from MW-2,MW-3, MW-4 and domestic well DW-1.
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
