Groundwater samples collected from monitoring well MW-1 and
domestic well DW-1 during the first two quarters of 2007 were not analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d) as directed by EHD by letter dated June 12,
2006. Although TPH-d has not been detected in any groundwater samples collected from
MW-1 during the second and fourth quarters 2006, and DW-1 during the second, third,
and fourth quarters 2006, EHD does not believe there is enough data collected to support
removing TPH-d from the analytical regimen at this time. However, EHD believes
trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), methanol, ethanol, tertiary butyl
alcohol ('rBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPS), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), and 1,2-
d1bromoethane (EDB) may be removed from the analytical regimen since these
compounds have not been detected in any groundwater samples collected during four or
more sampling events in 2006 and 2007. Analytical results for TCE, PCE, ethanol, and
methanol have not been reported in analytical tables included in quarterly groundwater
monitoring reports; please include these results in future quarterly groundwater
monitoring reports.
EHD believes additional site investigation is needed southeast of the former underground
storage tank area, directly south of the truck shop, since neither soil nor groundwater data
has been collected to delineate petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in this area. EHD
has reviewed the soil lithology for MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, and cone penetration testing
boring CPT-1, and believes a grab groundwater sample, collected at approximately 60 to
70 feet below ground surface, should provide the needed information concerning
dissolved plume contamination in this direction. Please submit a work plan to EHD by
December 7, 2007, that will delineate the groundwater plume laterally to the southeast.
