Appendix B
Drilling and Sampling Procedures
The procedures that were used for drilling the borings, collecting soil samples, and collecting
groundwater grab samples are presented below.
• An encroachment permit for the field investigation was obtained from the California
L Department of Transportation prior:to the fieldwork. .
• A drilling permit was obtained from the San Joaquin County Environmental Management
L Department.
' T
Drilling and Soil Sample Collection
• One soil boring was advanced to,a depth of up to approximately 3 0.0 meters (100 feet)
below the ground surface (BGS)'using CPT Geoprobe, direct-push, sampling
equipment.
• The drilling equipment was washed prior to drilling.
• Soil samples were collected using an approximately 2.5-centimeter(1-inch) diameter
sampler lined with a previously unused (new) acetate sample tube. Soil samples retained
for hazardous materials testing were 6 to 8 inches in length.
• The samplers were washed between sample intervals using a bristle brush with Alconox
solution followed by two tap water rinses and a deionized water rinse. The samplers
were dried by air or with paper towels prior to sampling.
• Following retrieval of the sampler, an approximately 0.15-meter(0.5-foot) section of the
sample tube from the desired depth was retained, the ends covered with Teflon film, and i
capped with polyvinyl chloride(PVC) end caps. Each sample was labeled with the
sample number, date, project number, and sampler's initials.
• Samples retained for laboratory analysis was placed in ziplock bags and stored on ice in
an insulated chest cooled to a temperature of approximately 4 degrees Celsius.
• Chain of custody procedures, including the use of chain of custody forms, will be used to
document sample handling and transport from collection to delivery to The laboratory for
analysis.
Groundwater Grab Sample Collection
• The groundwater grab samples were collected from Hydropunce-type sampling
equipment.
Inbmaabn TmMorog*,Ua FVDOOPR.Wj&aM3527&2a&dx g-1 i
i;
