845 Pine Street
Page 2
It should be noted that the tank designation at the time of soil sampling must have
been switched based on analytical results. PHS/EHD provided the previous summary
since it was neglected in the report submitted.
Soil contamination was detected in SBI at 5.5 feet below grade and in S85 at 11 and
16 feet below grade. The report failed to estimate any potential threat to groundwater
which the documented soil contamination may pose in the sandy soils of the site. I
Also, the report failed to include the professional registration of the engineer who
signed the report.
PHS/EHD does not concur with the recommendation to close the site. PHS/EHD was
informed by a Caltrans representative that the investigation was designed to ,
determine the extent of soil contamination which would be excavated prior to a j
request for site closure as well as to investigate the necessity to perform a
groundwater investigation following the excavation of contaminated soil.
Hopefully, the information which has been provided will aid in the further evaluation of
remedial efforts and/or evaluation of the potential threat to groundwater. Please
submit a corrective action plan as defined by California Underground Storage Tank
Regulations by January 15, 1996.
Please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337, if you have any questions.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
/ IL
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
