2 PART 2: MATERIALS <br /> 3 <br /> a 2.01 CONCRETE <br /> 5 <br /> 6 A. General: Materials shall conform to State Specifications Section 90. <br /> 7 <br /> s B. Portland Cement: Shall conform to State Specifications "Type II Modified". <br /> 9 <br /> 10 C. Water: Water for washing aggregates and for mixing and curing concrete shall be clean, ' <br /> 11 free from oil, acid, alkalies, vegetable matter, or other deleterious substances. No salt or <br /> 12 sea water or water containing excessive amount of sodium sulphate, magnesium sulphate <br /> 13 or magnesium chloride shall be used. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 D. Coarse Aggregate: The coarse aggregate shall consist of clean, hard, dense, tough and <br /> 16 durable natural gravel, crushed gravel, or crushed rock, conforming to State Specifications. <br /> 17 It shall be free from oil, organic matter or other deleterious substances. , <br /> 18 <br /> 19 E. Fine Aggregate: Fine aggregate shall consist of hard, durable, uncoated natural sand or <br /> 20 other approved material, conforming to State Specifications. It shall be free from oil or other ' <br /> 21 deleterious substances. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 F. Fly Ash: Fly ash shall conform to ASTM A-618, Class F or N, except that the loss on ignition <br /> 24 shall be limited to iso. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 G. Admixtures: <br /> 27 <br /> 28 1. A water reducing agent such as Pozzolith, WRDA, or equal shall be used in all <br /> 29 concrete. The admixture shall conform to ASTM Specification C494. Proportioning and <br /> 30 mixing shall be as recommended by the manufacturer. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 2. Admixtures causing accelerated setting of cement in concrete shall not be used. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 3. Air entraining admixtures with demonstrated compatibility with the concrete mix shall , <br /> 35 be used as required as a moderate addition to the water reducing agent to obtain the <br /> 36 specified percent air in the resultant concrete. Submit data verifying that the admixtures <br /> 37 are compatible with the mix. Air-entraining admixture shall conform to ASTM <br /> 38 Specification C260. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 2.02 REINFORCING <br /> 41 <br /> 42 A. Reinforcing Steel Bars: Deformed Bars, ASTM A615, including Supplementary Requirement <br /> 43 S1, Grade 60, free from rust, scale, oil, or frost. #3 bars may be Grade 40. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 <br /> as B. Welded Wire Fabric: Shall be of gauge and mesh size shown and shall meet the <br /> 47 requirements of ASTM A185 or ASTM A497 for smooth wire fabric. Wire fabric shall be free <br /> 48 from rust, scale, oil, and frost. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 C.
