i recommendations of waterproofing manufacturer. -
2
3 C. Exposed concrete surfaces shall be as described in the State Specifications Section '
4 51-1.188, Class 1 surface finish.
5
6 D. Concealed concrete and the interior surfaces of water-containing structures shall be as
7 described in the State Specifications, Section S1-1.18A, Ordinary Surface Finish. ,
8
9 3.11 SMB FINISHING
10
11 A. Screedino: After concrete hes been thoroughly consolidated, screed slabs to the desired '
12 elevation and contours by means of accurately placed edge forms and intermediate screed
13 strips.
14 '15 B. Floated Finish:
16
17 1. Place, consolidate, strike off, and level concrete, but do not work it further until ready '
1a for floating. Begin floating when water sheen has disappeared and when the surface
19 has stiffened sufficiently.
20
21 2. During or after the first floating, check planeness of surface with a 10400t straightedge '
22 applied at not less than two different angles, and then cut down all high spots and fill
23 all low spots to achieve a true plane within 1/4 inch in 10 feet.
24
25 3. Refloat slab immediately to a uniform sandy texture. ,
26
27 C. Troweled Finish: Float finish slab as described above, then steel trowel by machine or by ,
28 hand. Additional trowellings shall be done by hand after the surface has hardened
29 sufficiently. Final trowelling shall produce a ringing sound from the trowel and the finished
30 surface shall be free of trowel marks, uniform in texture, and appearance shall be planed to
31 the tolerance specified under Floated Finish. Troweled finish shall occur at tank floors ,
32 (except where grout topping or fillets will follow), troughs, channels, clear wells, and all
33 building floor slabs. Follow steel trowel with fine broom finish on all building floors which are
34 not scheduled for floor covering. '
35
36 D. Non-slip Floor Finish: Areas to have non-slip finish shall incorporate 25 pounds per 100
37 square feet of aluminum oxide grains into the surface. Immediately before floating begins,
36 sprinkle two-thirds of the abrasive evenly over the surface and float. After embedment, '
39 sprinkle the remaining one-third at right angles to the previous application. Apply more
40 heavily in areas not sufficiently covered by the first application, and float again immediately.
41 Complete finishing as specified under Troweled Finish. Stairs and stair landings shall receive '
42 Non-slip Floor finish.
43
44 E. Broom Finish: Immediately after floating, give slabs for exterior walkways and exterior stoops
45 a coarse transverse scored texture by drawing a broom across the surface.
46
47 3.12 FLOOR HARDENER
48 '
as A. All building floors not scheduled for floor covering, Non-slip Floor Finish, or Broom finish shall
50 receive hardener.
51
52 B. Apply hardener after floors have cured, in accordance with the manufacturer's ,
CONCRETE
042894 03100-14 ,
