1
' 1 2. Pipelines located in or under fill areas shall not be placed until the fill has been
2 constructed and compacted to an elevation at least two (2) feet above the elevation
3 of the top of pipe.
1 4
5 3. All backfill for pipe lines installed under structures, slabs, footings, and paving shall be
6 made with sand and fine gravel, thoroughly compacted in place to not less than 95%
7 of maximum density.
8
s B. Grades and elevations
io
> 1. All piping and appurtenances shall be installed in the position and to accurate lines,
12 elevations, and grades as shown on the plans or specified herein. Where possible,
13 piping shall be sloped to permit complete drainage. All pipelines shall be rigidly
14 supported and braced by approved hangers, brackets, or other devices. When
15 temporary supports are used, they shall be sufficiently rigid to prevent any shifting or
16 distortion of the piping or related work.
1 "
1e 2. Furnish all fittings necessary for the satisfactory alignment and arrangement of piping
19 and all necessary unions and cleanouts.
20
21 3. An invert grade rod shall be used in laying all lines below ground with the exception
22 of water supply lines.
23
24 C. Flexible couplings
2s
26 1. Flexible couplings shall be installed where shown on the drawings and at such other
27 points as may be required for ease of installation or removal of the pipe, subject to
28 approval of the Engineer. Where necessary to prevent separation of pipe due to
29 internal pressures, flexible couplings shall be of the type with set screws in the retainer
30 gland or shall be provided with tie rods. Where permanent flexibility is required,
1 31 however, such as at connections to pumps or other equipment, and elsewhere as
32 called for on the drawings, tie rods shall be the only acceptable restraining devices
33 and shall be installed through separate mounting plates or lugs and not through flange
' 34 bolt holes, in order to retain flexibility.
35
36 2. Where rubber or similar flexible couplings are called for on the Drawings, tie rods shall
37 be provided it recommended by the manufacturer to prevent excessive elongation.
38
39 D. Flexible joints
40
41 1. For pipe lines extending from a concrete structure into earth, at least two flexible joints
42 shall be provided in the earth within 3 feet of the structure face, one of which may be
43 cast in structure with end flush with structure face. Piping beyond structure shall
44 adequately supported by proper compaction under pipe or by supporting on firm
45 undisturbed soil if necessary.
46
47 2. PVC piping extending from a concrete structure (including manholes, etc.) into earth
48 shall be provided with a rubber flexible connection, Redflex P-5, Mercer Rubber
49 "Vibraflex", or connecting hose, "Yosemite" by American Rubber, Gates 35W, attached
50 with stainless steel clamps, or equal.
57
sz
GENERAL PROCESS AND ONSITE UTILITY PIPING PROVISIONS
050694 15010-5
