a length of 2" slotted PVC well screen was placed in the hale to
allow the collection of a water sample.
After cleaning all of the equipment,
rotary hammer was positioned
over Auger Hole "D" , at the northwest end of the garage, about 25
'
feet east of Trench #4; see Plate VII for details. A 2" hole was
advanced with the rotary hammer; soils encountered were primarily
sandy clay, with some thin layers of sticky clay. The hole
' became damp near bottom, but water did not enter the hole.
Boring continued to a depth of 7 ' , where a soil sample was taken
using a clean brass tube placed in the sample sleeve holder which
had been thoroughly steam cleaned prior to use. No odors or
' evidence of contamination were noted.
At the completion of boring operations, water samples were
' collected from auger holes "H" , "E" , 11F118c aG"
by lowering
disposable teflon bailers inside the well screens and placing the
water in clean, properly prepared glass vials. The vials were
' placed on ace with the previously collected brass tubes and were
transported to the laboratory under proper chain of custody;
(refer to Exhibit J, which also includes copies of the laboratory
worksheets) . Upon completion of augerxng and sampling, all holes
were filled with cement to the surface under the supervision of
Mr. M. Inferna of the EHD.
' WORK DONE UNDER SECOND ADDENDUM TO WORKPLAN DATED JAM. 31 1992
A review of the laboratory analysis done on the above samples,
(see Table III , ) showed that the limits of contamination had been
' determined to the northwest, north, northeast, and east of the
site of the removed UST. However, measureabla amounts of
Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene, and TPH-G were detected in the
' soil sample from Auger Hole "A" , west of the LUST site, and in the
water sample obtained from Auger Hole '=B". All other samples
taken were below detection levels.
' In order to further define the lateral extent of the
contamination, it was proposed to hand-auger additional borings
to the west, south, and southeast; a copy of that Addendum is
' included as Exhibit K.
Work began on January 16, 1992, using Del-Tech Geotechnical
' Services equipment and personel under the supervision of Wirt.
Hunter, RG. Auger Hale "B-1" was measured off 20 feet due south
of Auger Hole "B" , which was placed during the work performed on
Nov. 21 , 1991; refer to Plate VII for its ' location in reference
' to prior work. A 3 1/4" hand-auger was used to advance the
bearing; details of sediments penetrated are shown on Plot 3C and
7
1
