OCT 0 2
C"WIRONIMENTAL HEALTH
September 30, 1991
Mr. Eliot Appleton
Sierra Bay Farm Credit
P.O. Box 8070
Stockton, CA 95208
Subject: Environmemtai Test Results for 18775 Tom Payne Road,Tracy
& 3003 Burns Cutoff Rand, Stockton
Dear Mr. Appleton:
This letter is intended to confirm several issues that we discussed on Friday, September
27, 1991 regarding laboratory analyses performed on soil samples from the subject sites.
WESTON Analytics was retained by Marty Thorpe to perform several analyses for these
sites. Mr. Thorpe has requested that we prepare this letter as an explanation for the mis-
identification and Initial incorrect reporting of these samples.
A single sample collected from 18775 Tom Payne Road In Tracy was submitted to our
laboratory for determination of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-G),
BenzenelToluene/Ethyl Benzene/Xylenes (BTEX), head (Pb), and Ethylene Dibromide
(EDB). An additional single sample collected from 3003 Burns Cutoff Road in Stockton
was submitted for determination of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D) and
BTEX. All analyses with the exception of BTEX were performed and reported with
complete confidence in both the sample identification and results. The BTEX samples
were originally In question due to confusion with sample labeling. We originally reported
only one of the two BTEX results to Mr. Thorpe who Immediately recognized that the
results of this sample did not conform to his field observations. Mr. Thorpe contacted us
regarding a possibility of mis-identification. WESTON reanalyzed these samples and
confirmed Mr. Thorpe's suspicion. The results contained in the final report submitted to
Mr. Thorpe are corrected results based upon reanalyses of sample materials from the
original sample containers.
