ground level , it is felt that further excavation of the site of
the UST is not a viable option at this time. The water quality
is already highly degraded by salts and other substances, and
breaching the water- table by removing additional spoil may
exacerbate the situation. It is believed that hand--augered
borings offer the best and most cost-effective method of
determining the extend of the contamination.
1. Using a 4" hand auger, auger to a depth of approximately 10
feet, or into the capillary fringe or transition zone. Soil
samples are to be collected from the teeth of the auger at 5' &
10 ' , or total augered depth; the bottom sail sample to be taken
from the transition zone if passible. Auger hole are to be
located approximately as shown on Plate VII .
2. The soil samples will be collected by the geologist in
properly prepared brass tubes supplied by FOL Environmental ,
sealed, labeled and placed on ice pending transfer to the lab for
analysis. The auger will be thoroughly cleaned between each run
by rinsing with TSP and then clean water. Samples will be
transported to the lab under propel~ chain of custody, and
analyzed for bTEK, TPH-G, and soluble lead.
3. Every effort will be made to avoid penetrating the water
table.
4. All auger holes will be filled with grout immediately
following final sampling. Removed spoils will be placed in
properly labeled and sealed drums, and stored on site pending
final completion of the project.
A Health and safety plan is attached as Exhibit D.
Further investigative or remedial work will be proposed after
reviewing the results of the laboratory analyzes of the soil
samples.
Your prompt review and response to this workplan will be greatly
appreciated; our client is currently marketing the property for
sale, and wishes to have this matter resolved as quickly as
possible.
ED Gfpocs
Yours t r l y, WLLIAM J HINTER
J. er
.
cc.
