(AGE) for the above subject site and provides the following
comments.
In a letter dated January 7, 2009, the EHD directed that the ozone system be assessed and that
ozone injection be limited to the shallow injection points near MW7. This was to be completed
by January 27, 2009 and the EHD was to be informed of the details of the adjustments to the
ozone system_ To date the EHD has not been informed that adjustments have been made to
the ozone system.
The Report discusses that groundwater samples were only collected from monitoring wells MW-
4, MW-5, MW-7 and MW-8. Although, the EHD approves of this reduction in sampling of wells,
changes in the wells to be sampled or chemical analysis on the samples is to be proposed and
approved by the EHD prior to the action. Monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-6 and MW-
9 through MW-11 are to be sampled annually. To further reduce sampling and corrective
action costs the EHD recommends that MW-4, MW5 and MW8 only be sampled twice a year,
during the first and third quarters, that chemical analysis on the water samples be limited to total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) and MTBE and that measurements for dissolved
oxygen be limited to those wells within the area of ozone operation.
The concentrations of MTBE and TPH-g in the water samples from MW-7 (currently the only
well with contaminant concentrations) were significantly reduced the fourth quarter 2008. It is
essential that quarterly sampling of this well continue. Once the concentrations of MTBE and
TPH-g are confirmed to be reduced to this low level, then the ozone injection can be
discontinued and post remedial monitoring (sampling to confirm the MTBE and TPH-g has been
remediated) can be conducted.
