I22 February 1999 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 96-0263 <br /> IPage 3 of 8 <br /> tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME) and tertiary butanol (TBA) <br /> in accordance with 8260-Modified, respectively <br />' <br /> 26 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES <br />' Ground water sampling of the on site wells was conducted on 02 December 1999 and at the verbal <br /> direction of the PHS-EHD an additional sampling event was conducted 13 January 2000 to re- <br /> evaluate the initial well sampling data <br /> For the sampling event, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water <br />' in eight wells relative to the tops of the well casings The ground water elevations and gradient were <br /> determined from these data(Table 1) <br /> After recording water level measurements, a submersible pump was used to purge each monitoring <br /> well of standing water Approximately 6 gallons of water (minimum of 3 water volumes from <br /> submerged casing)were removed from each well, except for well MW-6, from which approximately <br /> . <br /> 12 gallons or 15 gallons of water was removed from well MW-6 Ground water temperature,pH and <br /> conductivity were measured at regular intervals during purging using a Hydac water analyzer Field <br /> sheets and data are included in Appendix C Purged water was stored on-site in labeled, 55-gallon <br /> DOT-approved drums <br /> 27 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES <br /> Water samples were collected from each purged well using new disposable plastic bailers Each <br /> water sample was transferred into 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a <br /> sample preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled <br /> container and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI, and were analyzed for <br /> • TPH-g in accordance with EPA Methods 8015 Modified, <br /> • BTEX with MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8020 and <br /> • DIPE, ETBE, MTBE, TAME and TBA in accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified <br /> I28 SURVEYING <br /> .
