The samples of treated water were tested to determine the concentrations of total
' petroleum hydrocarbons (quantified as gasoline), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total
xylene isomers that they contained. The analyses were performed at Chromolab Inc.'s
laboratory in Pleasanton, California. Chromalab's laboratory is licensed by the California
' Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Health Services to perform the cited
analyses. The certificates of analysis, together with the associated chain-of-custody
records, are attached. The sample numbers cited on the certificates correspond to the
identification numbers of the Baker tanks holding the treated water to which the respective
analytical results apply.
' Treated water was first released to the sanitary sewer on April 18, 1996. The Baker tanks
were discharged to the sewer by gravity flow at a maximum rate of 10 gpm. A copy of the
' certificate of analysis for each of the samples recovered from the Baker tanks used to store
the treated water was transmitted to your office and your approval obtained before the
contents of the subject tank was released to the sanitary sewer. With the exception of two
de-minimus cases, the analytical data show that none of the treated water contained any
detectable concentration of any of the analytes of concern.
The last discharge to the sanitary sewer was on April 27, 1996. As measured by a flow
totalizer in the discharge line, the total volume of treated water discharged amounted to
148,160 gallons that were released from the Baker tanks in seven, separately-tested
1 batches.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance with the emergency remediation
' necessitated by the discovery of fuel hydrocarbons affecting soil and groundwater beneath
the subject property. You timely response to our request for authorization to discharge the
treated water to the sanitary sewer was a major contribution to the success of the project
' and permitted the construction work on Mr. Sanchez's property to be resumed with
minimum delay.
