G
To : Mr. Chet Davisson, Secretary 6/17/90
San Joaquin County
Planning Commission
iUi4 2) 1 i9p
From: Gertrude Queirolo
Janice Merritt SAS! 1OAQUIN COUNTY
Darrell Merritt PLANNING DIVISION.!
We are the owners of the portion of land adjacent to the
proposed Claude C. Wood Quarry Excavation near Clements .
Our property consists of 111 acres of river bottom and
bluff directly north of the project. It is the last piece of
agricultural land from the original Clements Ranch still
owned by the Clements family.
We srongly object to this proposed excavation for a
number of reasons .
The work is extremely close to the town of Clements and
our home and will generate problems with dust and noise . This
coupled with the visual affects of the work going on for many
years , and the results forever, seems to high a price to pay.
The natural drainage of the bottom land falls away from
the river. Historically surface water has found its way
south of the river along the bluff then west along the bluff
until it rejoins the river.
An excavation of this nature will destroy this natural
flow and the habitat it has generated. The water will have
no egress unless massive channel work is done along the bluff
to the west destroying much more wetlands.
We strongly recommend disapproval of this proposal . If
this recommendation is not accepted, mitigation measures
should be thoroughly considered.
As a minimum the following issues must be addressed in
the excavation permit:
1 ) Hours of Work and restriction of weekend and 1
holiday operations .
2 ) Maximum life of operation. 2
3 ) Flow of surface water and overflow of the 3
river.
