PHS/EHD also reviewed the analytical results
obtained from the November 5, 1997 sampling of the stockpiled soil which was removed during the
Thornton Drainage Project. PHS/EHD has prepared the following corturents for your consideration.
PHS/EHD has provided comments on the draft in attachment for your reiriew and consideration. Once
any additions or changes are made,PHS/EHD will certify that the action plan has been approved.
The analytical results from the previously stockpiled soil indicated that there was no remaining
contamination in the stockpiled soil. The soil had undergone uncontrolled aeration for approximately
one week prior to characterization and relocation. The soil may be used for road base or used for
trenching backfill as was discussed when evaluating disposal options.
PHS/EHD understands that a staff person has been requested to providefurther directions regarding
visual and olfactory observations which can be used to distinguish petroleum contaminated soil from
uncontaminated soil. Please provide at least 48 hours notice,so a site in pection may be scheduled.
Once field activities are completed and as analytical results become available,PHS/EHD may be
requested to provide further assistance.
A summary of the analytical results and soil disposition should be submi to the Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Board and to PHS/EHD.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (209) 4 68-0337.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays,Senior REHS Margaret Lagorib,REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
cc: Wendy Cohen,CVRWQCB 3443 Routier Road,Suite A,Sacramento CA 95827
(w/o attachment)
A Division of San Joaquin Counry Hplth Care Sem
