Box 440
Lodi, CA 95241
INSPECTION REPORT, EAST-SIDE WINERY, LODI, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Enclosed is a report summarizing my 23 February 2000 inspection of the East-Side Winery and the
wastewater disposal ponds. In general, the winery was clean and well maintained; the disposal ponds
were in acceptable condition. A site inspection photograph log is enclosed with this letter.
The following observations were made during the site inspection:
• Winery wastewater and distillery stillage waste streams are separated at the facility. The winery
wastewater is discharged into the deep ponds (one large area separated into four smaller ponds by
interior berms). The stillage is discharged into the shallow ponds. No odor was noted in the
vicinity of the ponds.
• The freeboard of all ponds was acceptable (at least two feet).
• The berms in general were in good condition during my inspection with the exception of a
localized failure of an interior berm separating two deep ponds.
• Pomice, filter cake, and stems were stored for composting in the area located between the shallow
and deep ponds.
• According to Mr. Eichele, the distillery has been used only for brief periods in the last few years.
Because the waste discharge requirements for the site are no longer consistent with the present Board
policies, staff will soon prepare updated waste discharge requirements based on the Report of Waste
Discharge submitted to the Board on 10 February 2000. If you have any questions on this information,
please telephone me at (916) 255-3116.
TIMOTHY R.
