Box 440
Lodi, CA 95241
CONDITIONAL APPROVAL OF GROUNDWATER MONITORL'VG 1YORKPL4N, EAST-SIDE
WINERY; LODI, SAN JOA QUIN COUNTY
I have reviewed the "Monitoring Well Installation Workplan, " prepared by Fall Creek Engineering,
dated 26 June 2000. The plan was prepared in response to Regional Water
azell correspondence ed
19 May 2000 requesting installation and sampling of groundwater monitoring
ponds.
After reviewing the workplan, I have the following comments:
• Two groundwater monitoring wells will not allow calculation of the groundwater flow direction and
are not sufficient to monitor the wastewater pond locations. Please resubmit the figure with wells
placed to determine water quality upgradient and downgradient of the wastewater ponds.
• Limit bentonite content in the cement/bentonite slurry to less than five-percent by weight to prevent
excessive shrinkage. Grout placed below standing water in the borings must be placed using a
tremie pipe placed at the bottom of the interval to be grouted.
• Well development shall be performed no sooner than 24-hours after the well grout(cement/bentonite
slurry) has been installed in accordance with the Department of Water Resources California'Well
Standards, Bulletin 74-90. This is considered especially important to protect the surface seal of the
wells.
• The list of analytes groundwater samples will be chemically analyzed for was not specified, the
analysis shall be consistent with Monitoring Program 58-539. A copy of the monitoring and
reporting program is attached to this letter.
• Permits from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health DepartmW01 1ZlV , ,
of groundwater monitoring wells. .li /
If conditions in the borehole allow, It is recommended tht th
the bentoniteat seal.
